13 miles!

couldn't find the sweet spot during the entire 13 miles... might have been allergies to cats and dogs, might have been less than 6 hours of sleep the night before. or lack of bowel movement before race and consequent rest stop at mile 3 in corktown mexican restaurant! afterwards we went to buddy's in old polish town and i ate the best pizza i have ever tasted! a few pics from the race below- dan ran the whole marathon and jill, susan, and i only did half. somehow her parents missed us so there is only a pic of dan running!

surprise...

back in my berwyn days i went to Peggy Rose's ballet studio. this was my costume (minus the doggie ears) for 'how much is that doggie in the window?' i love the look of cluelessness. even at that young and usually perceptive age i look perpetually surprised by the world around me. 24 and still the root of it.

how so?

surprised that leaving my windows open at night leaves me susceptible to break-in. naive as to the heart of the occurence even when presented with undeniable evidence.

surprised by death even when it is found out and labeled and offering time for preparation.

surprised at the fallibity of craigslist, the internet, and basic human decency in the face of incontrovertible material and even the better judgement of my gut.

caught in some mixed up muddle of wonder and surpise. so fine the line between marvelling at the incomprehensibility of the world and being caught unawares by how it affects us. one implies consciousness and the other?

ay.

growing up in naperville?

embarassed to write about this but here it is...

lost my iPod to a craigslist scam. sent it to nigeria via fed ex express before receiving the money. legitimate scam of course- he hacked into Money Gram International and the account of a guy named Cole Smith. i realized just too late today and fed ex said they had delivered the package just as i called to notify them of the fraud. naive naive naive. i need some serious street smarts. any ideas on where i can get some?

fin de?

post salsa saturday night? left at least 5 detailed messages on cell phone voice mails as to time and location should my body be found missing the next day, victim of a break-in and kidnapping while at home alone. maybe i am not entitled to post traumatic stress since it has already been over one month. eh...

and

cultivated a serious relationship with one small piece of gum (orbit spearmint) for 10 miles on sunday. felt fine after the run but i woke up this morning with severely swollen jaw and distressed jaw muscles. may have to keep myself on liquid diet (tommy's shakes and tea?) for the next day or so.

serdeczne pozdrowienia z Chicago!

hearty greetings from the old town!

saw my uncle jeff on friday and saturday. got to play for him and make a few jokes. he even wiggled his eyebrows once... when we got there sunday he had already passed. went for a run afterwards (http://tinyurl.com/a4t47) and found out that my old house on Home avenue in Berwyn is just a few miles from my uncle's house. never knew my house was so small, never knew our houses were so close. over the bridge i was also too scared to ride across, through riverside and all those big old houses, across harlem and in and out of proksa park. my first penny carnival and the goldfish that wouldn't die, barbara maskewitz and the train tracks right by the house, how much is that doggie in the window at Peggie's ballet- too many memories. cuando te llueve sobre mojado... started to rain by the time i turned around. nothing like the anonymity of rain for tears. a time for polish vodka, bakeries, pork and sauerkraut, p.j.klem's, and adolf's. a time to lose. and a time to remember things which cannot be lost.
